¶ Material handlers
Material handlers are purpose-built or adapted machines used in forestry and timber processing environments to sort, stack, load, and organise logs and timber products at landings, log yards, and sawmill intake areas. Unlike harvesting machines that fell and process standing trees, material handlers are primarily concerned with the downstream movement of already-harvested timber, and are designed to handle large volumes of logs with speed, precision, and minimal product damage. In forestry applications, material handlers are typically built on tracked or wheeled excavator-style carriers fitted with hydraulic rotating grapples that can grip individual logs or bunches, orient them for sorting by species or grade, and build sorted decks or load them directly onto trucks.
